The second season of Whistable Pearl is playing. It is ok.
Doc Martin 10 has been out, still waiting for a Christmas episode. (don't want to ruin it for you, he's a doctor again)
If you like that little show "Christmas Story". With the little boy who wants a red rider bb gun. There is a sequel to that. "A Christmas Story Christmas 2022" It has much of the cast of the original (now adults), it's set in the 70's, I though it was fair. The adults don't give the show the energy that the kids did back in 83.
If you want stupid, there is Mr Been - Man vs bee. It's ok. He is older, not quite the energy of his younger work.
There is a western, with all British actors, "That dirty black bag". I've got it, it looks ok, have not had a chance to watch it yet.
Magpie murders, slow start, then developed later. It was ok.
2nd season of Guilt, different show that the first, It was ok.
There was Top gun maverick, it was ok for that type of show.
Under the vines
The responder
Hotel Portofino (I thought it was only fair)
Murder in Provence
A very british scandal
The serpent
Becoming Elizabeth
I saw Spider man no way home.
Another lower energy sequel, but it was ok, if you like spiderman.
Four good days. That has Mila Kunis as a drug addict. She did a good job.
Gran Torino: I found it a bummer, but others might not. Watch if:
You're American, AND
You're a Clint Eastwood Fan (Yes, it's vintage Clint), AND
You enjoy movies that move at the pace of paint drying.
There's no plot to speak of, really, but you won't have PTSD. More likely, you;ll wake up when it's over.
The Queen's Gambit I finished Series one, and will probably see series 2 if it comes out. You really need to have played chess at some competitive level. I have, at a very low level; then I saw what you had to be, and I decided to get out. Some attempt is made in the dialogue to cater for those who are not chess-savvy, and understand & ignore this if you know chess. This series is (wisely) set before chess computers. I took to the character and the series finished on a high. The time she takes to become a world class chess player is quite unrealistically short, prodigy or not. Things like: the advantage of being white; how unusual a win for black is at high levels; or the frequency of draws at the highest levels are only mentioned in passing. I doubt if the chess uninitiated will take them in. The side-effects of chess on the personality are shown in the script but no attention is drawn to them. Probably left for series 2.
Welcome to Wrexham S01 Actors Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenny bought Wrexham AFC in Wales, in the lowest Professional Football (Association Football = Soccer) Division they could be in. It doesn't say how much they paid, but they probably paid too much, because the place was going bankrupt without them. This documentary chronicles their journey. The whole of Wrexham seems to support this loser club. You get a good feeling for the elation & pathos that the fortunes of the club create.
Ice Age (2002) In the best tradition of animated Disney creations. Scenery and cartoon action are top class. So is the dialogue. There is nothing not to like about this, imho. Be a kid and you'll be sore from laughing.

I've been watching a 4 part docu-series "BBC A Century of Self"
Very interesting for those in the Excited States. It picks up in the States after WW1. Prior to WW1, things had been sold based on need, but as folks were getting affluent, the market for needs would predictably die out, and bankruptcy loomed for manufacturing outfits. They turned to Edward Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud for a solution. He told them to sell people their wants and desires, not needs. He invented the science of Public Relations (He didn't want to use the word Propeganda). He became very rich in the process.
Ever since then, the American Public (and it's not the only place) have had their pockets lightened by big corporations & PsychoAnalysts as every wave of public opinion has been tamed or influenced by corporations, shrinks, freeloaders or others capitalising on the next fashionable idea.
It's really a history of 20th century marketing, and how people made millions from surfing the various waves of public opinion. It's probably compulsory viewing for every American and certainly food for thought for the rest of us. It might be difficult to lay hold of, but if you can, do.
