The original "Get Carter" starring Michael Caine is a classic and needs to be watched regularly.

Children of Men is a pretty deep one -- not too much humor, but certainly a good watch. Slumdog Millionaire was pretty good, but certain components of the production were a bit hokey.

Go to www.imdb.com, open "top 50" or "top 100" list for any genre, and pick any movie with rating above 5 or 6.

V for Vendetta is my favorite movie ever. Check it out if you've never seen it.
Honorable mention goes to SLC Punk (which is a great but lesser-known movie).

If you are into horror movies and havent seen "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later", then I suggest those two for starters.

I also enjoy the Saw movies (I do like a bit of gore ) and also Memento and The Usual Suspects - both above average thrillers and both do something a little different with the genre.

Hackers 2 - Operation: Takedown.
WELL good movie!
Or.... Uhm.. I can't think of the name of it. It's about some woman who becomes a carrier or something of the wounds of God and dies from it. And some scientist guy who works alongside the church or whatever tries to rescue her. Uhm. Got a red cover on the DVD case. I can't think of it and it's really bugging me!
Or
Frequency
Lost in the Bermuda Triangle
Enemy of the State
Band of Brothers is good
Remembered it!! The movie is - Stigmata. Really, really good movie.
