[SOLVED] Should that English tuition thread be made a Sticky ?

I am referring to this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t-here-654375/

I often post there questions w.r.t English grammatical errors and many times the thread gets lost due to newly bumped threads. It is difficult to look for the thread behind the pages in subscribed threads.

If the decision goes against making it a sticky, then in that case am I allowed to create new threads for new English problem ?

I used to do that till now, but since we are not allowed to create a new thread for the English questions, it makes more sense to make it Sticky. And secondly if we are allowed to create a new thread for a new English question, then I won't have any problems. (but I am not sure if mods would allow the second option)

The WindowsVSLinux topic cannot have a new thread, there is only one thread for it and therefore that thread has been made a sticky! Why are people partial about this thread then ?

Good idea, Anisha. I'll support your campaign to get it stickied.

I was about to post "Et tu, Briany ?" (thinking you too were against it) before I read your reply

Why not place it as a link in your signature? That way you will have it and others that would need will find it there. Something like;
Problems with English

No mod responded because it probably wasn't seen. This won't be made into a sticky for the simple reason that LQ isn't a language board. While this is a very useful thread (and thanks to all who have participated), it is disorganised and so isn't really something I would point to as a basic read/learn resource. Though, as we have seen, it is great for specific problems.

My suggestion is to keep the questions and answers coming and it will stay high up in the listings.

I know that, but since /General does not have any problems with rants, raves and political discussions etc. I thought it may not have any problem with that "informative" thread being sticky too.

True, but then the religion thread would also deserve stickying as would others. That would then push the active threads down the page. To be honest, I have long found sticky threads to be next to useless in terms of the thread being found - we have had many of them over the last 10 years and they tend to be ignored (and you can easily spot it by seeing threads raised which are answered by a sticky).

Yes, let's make the religious thread sticky... just kidding.

I also think that the English language thread deserves more exposure, but I also agree with XavierP that sticky threads don't really work. It's as recently as 2 days ago that I noticed a sticky thread about setting up X in Slackware. It's been there for ages!! I believe regular inflow of new posts makes a thread much more visible.
Additionally, onebuck's idea about putting the link in your signature is a good one.

Smile And some maths too!

If we have an English sticky-thread, I say we also have a maths thread too. We need more 'nerd' on LQ, and maths is also a direct correlation with computers in general, as well as it is in the 'general' forums.

Does the religion thread teach anything anyone which can be in any way helpful to LQ ? Anyway it is futile for me to argue here further now. Labeling the thread SOLVED.

Religion never really taught us anything, it just stole from philosophers/logical thinkers and then claimed all the credit. *ducks*
