my mood

Posted 02-11-2010 at 05:34 AM by backtolinux

sometimes ago, i read an ingeneer, so loving linux system like, as i can read from him.
He complained about the fact linux is not ready for desktop.
And, reading the title, i was offusced by it, but reading more carrefully, I fall in the same conclusion : linux is not ready for desktop, like we see for PC released with windows.
First things the games. I know, there much game that we can play under our favorite OS, but see carrefully the market : all is designed for windows....

1 day downtime

Posted 02-11-2010 at 04:07 AM by Web31337 (In The Middle Of Nowhere [edK's blog])

Updated 03-04-2011 at 09:42 AM by rocket357 (Added Version changelog to script)

UPDATE: Script has been revised and is available here

The following script is something I've written up to ease my duties as the PostgreSQL DBA for a large hosting company. It configures PostgreSQL according to whack-a-mole, and it auto-detects various resources such as system RAM, shared memory settings, etc...

The script currently supports Linux and OpenBSD (FreeBSD coming soon!).

Code:
#!/bin/sh

# configPG.sh:
#
# This script

Newbies As Guinea Pigs?

Posted 02-10-2010 at 05:58 AM by dixiedancer (A Simple Kid's Opinion)

There is no excuse, in my opinion, for putting unstable, experimental beta software as a default in a ready release of a Linux distro that claims to be "beginner-friendly," as Ubuntu has done with Karmic Koala! Both Grub-2 and PulseAudio are still Beta, still unstable. Yet tried-and-proven ALSA is set aside in favor of PulseAudio. At least in Ubuntu and Kubuntu. Thankfully Xubuntu did not simply copy it's older siblings. Karmic Xubuntu has been trouble free because the smart devs on that...
