Hi everyone. I have an older Lenovo Laptop on which I installed my own custom MX Linux (snapshot) image. I've used this image on at least half a dozen laptops without an issue. On this particular laptop (an old Lenovo G555 with AMD graphics) everything works exactly as it should while on normal power. But as soon as I pull the electric plug, making the laptop run on battery power ... my open XFCE windows behave very strange.

If I try to move a window by picking it up at the titlebar, the window will softly bounce left or right or up and down in the direction that I move the mouse. On most of the open applications it's not that big of a deal. It can't really be ignored, but it's not too much of a problem. However, if I try to move an open Thunar window, that problem becomes much worse. Now it's as if the window is laying in a pool of water and when you try to move it to the left or to the right on the screen, the effect is as though you gently bump a ball in a pool of water, causing it to gently swish to the side where it as being bumped. Left or right, up or down, it doesn't matter.
It's really really weird behavior and I don't have compiz enabled either.
Never seen this before on a laptop.

Anyone ever encounter this with XFCE and a laptop running on battery power? I would love to turn this strange behavior off ... if I only knew how ...

Why do you keep mentioning compiz? It's not part of a normal XFCE install afaik.

Have you tried dis/enabling XFCE's own compositor? It's in the settings somewhere, under Window Effects iirc.

I mention compiz because you can run XFCE with compiz installed ... or didn't you know ???

I use default compositor settings on all installs. So no, I haven't tried that yet.
Will give that a try in the next day or two. Thanks for the suggestion.

UPDATE: Well, I played around with various settings, window, and desktop adjustments ... managed to tone down the quirky floating windows (in battery mode only) behavior, but never quite managed to get rid of it completely. The only thing that's different about this laptop is the fact that it has Radeon Graphics drivers. Not custom drivers but the default drivers that come with MX Linux. So I'm just going to assuem that this behavior has to be attributed to the graphic drivers. At this point it's about the only thing that makes any kind of sense to me.
