Compiz Error in Bodhi Linux 5.0 (Ubuntu 18.04) >> compiz (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0

I installed Compiz in Bodhi Linux 5.0

- sudo apt update
- sudo apt install compizconfig-settings-manager
- sudo apt install compiz-plugins-extra

But when I execute the "compiz --replace" command in the terminal I get this error:

compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: core
compiz (core) - Info: Starting plugin: core
compiz (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0
compiz (core) - Info: Stopping plugin: core
compiz (core) - Info: Unloading plugin: core

I do not know what to do since I'm not a Linux expert. I need the Compiz to be able to zoom on the desktop when recording videos with Kazam

According to Jeff Hoogland who belongs to the technical team, he replied that Compiz does not work with Moksha / Enlightenment.

I try to use Kwin and it does not work with Bodhi Linux either.

I can only try to install Ecomorph (First I must install Git) that is an altered version of Compiz for enlightenment according to what I read or install Compton.

The problem is that Compton does not have the effect of "Zoom in" and Zoom Out "which I need to record videos on the Bodhi Linux desktop with the Kazam program.

Well I must continue investigated.

i am by no means a linux expert either, but this is one of the reasons i dual boot bodhi and ubuntu mate. i really like the fact that bodhi is so light on system resources and still feels to me like a very full-featured os experience, but sometimes (like with audacity) i have run into issues which i couldn't fully remedy (maybe a lack of some important lib?) that didn't show up in ubuntu mate.

sorry to hear this didn't work for you. hope you find a helpful solution soon

it has been a while (this was back on 4.5) and i'm not remembering any specifics. i just recall having to reboot a couple times after using it. either my system sound would go out or something similar that wasn't cleared by closing audacity. again, i really only keep ubuntu mate for just in case issues and that was big enough to make me boot into it.

wish i could be of more help :/ this was back when the bodhilinux.com forum was still up and running, but i didn't have reliable internet access to post something about it.

Probably no better than compton for your purpose, but you could try xcompmgr...

When I run compton or xcompmgr, my shelf clock doesn't update any correctly after resume from idle, on all three computers, but apparently I'm the only one with this issue...

@enigma9o7

Your clock issue is interesting. I also use Compton and I can reproduce your problem after resume. But in my case after approx. 30 secs the clock returns to the right value. Maybe your compton config file is not fully OK. Here is mine:
