After upgrading my DELL Inspiron 8600 to Mandriva 2005 LE, the keyboard stops working.

All works fine thru boot but at login or later the keyboard freezes. Touchpad mouse works fine.

If I restart X server it sometimes works for a short while. When I reboot the system I can briefly see some errors concerning tty and IRQ 4, as if the keyboard interrupts have been stored until the reboot.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem with LE2005 and my laptop (IBM T23). I think I resolved the problem by using a different login manager (you will need to boot using failsafe if you can and then load up the GUI). If memory serves me corrent it is actually a problem with KDE. There was a fix for it (some config change or something) but you may have to google for it as I can't remember off the top of my head.

If your not using the KDE login manager then you may have a different problem, but try changing the login manager first to see if that helps.

You may even want to enable auto-login so that you skip the login display.

Your analyze was right. I changed from KDM to XDM and now it's working again.
