The center icon (penguin) is just a notification icon for whether or not you're online at this time. Hover over it with your mouse.

What I was referring to was the penguin's head to the left, which indicates "unknown Linux system", not the penguin in the middle, which just shows whether you are online or not.

Sorry, Hazel... I was actually replying to gus3 (quote above) when I commented about the penguin.

Hummm... let's see if I made it.

______
EDIT: yay! I've made it.

For the ones using Vivaldi:
  1. Add User-Agent Switcher and Manager extension;
  2. In Options, set to White-List Mode and add 'linuxquestions.org, webbrowsertools.com' to the list;
  3. In extension's pop-up (click on 'spy' icon besides address bar), set userAgent string to '${userAgent} Slackware' and hit apply. Test if you want.
See Vivaldi's article about the above extension here and extension's FAQ here.

I use Custom UserAgent String. I am am helping out someone on another forum in spoofing Linux on Windows 10. Since Custom UserAgent String requires one to create the UserAgent string I decided to look on Firefox add-ons, guess what came up as recommended? ]User-Agent Switcher and Manager. What I like is it gives a selection list, but also has other features. I have decided to remove the Custom UserAgent String add-on and keep ]User-Agent Switcher and Manager.

I solved this a bit differently by using Custom Mode and setting the following in the Custom Mode section of the add-ons Preferences.
Code:
{
  "www.linuxquestions.org": "${userAgent} Slackware"
}

It takes immediately, no refresh required.

Hmmm, well it does some times. <grin>

Work anyway. So I just changed add-ons.

When I used Vivaldi, I used this trick. It works for any Chromium-based browser. The similar approach will work for firefox, but it additionally requires create an account on Mozilla site and registered the "extension" there.

-- useragent test --

It's working. Excellent!

- about:congif
- create general.useragent.override string: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Slackware; Linux x86_64; rv-90.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/90.0

Yahoo!

---

Hmm... then is it stopped working after the edit of this post. Hmm...

AH... refreshing the page fixes it.

I'm out...

Testing #2 -> OK.

Just be aware that such a string causes Google ReCAPTCHA to break with an unsupported browser message.
This can be annoying when using a website that requires ReCAPTCHA.
