Share the printer from windows first. Add the appropriate drivers for the printer to your Ubuntu. Then add the printer in your Ubuntu either using cups or add printer wizard and select windows printer.

I would agree with most of that, but before you spend a long time searching for and installing the necessary printer drivers, you should know that there is a fair chance that they are already installed.
