How to access a printer in a machine with windows installed?
I'd like to know how to configure the printer in Mandrake 10.0.
The computer is in a network and the printer is connected to another computer with windows installed. I went to "Configure your computer System configuration tool", then to "Hardware" and then to "Printers". I clicked in "Add Printer", then in "Next", then I chose "Printer SMB/Windows 95/98/NTserver" and I clicked in "Next". That was the configuration that I set:
SMB server host: "computer name of the machine that has the printer"
SMB server ip: "ip of of the machine that has the printer"
Share name: "share-name of the printer"
It doesn't need username and password, so I left them blank. When I execute the command smbclient -NL "computer name", doesn't appear the name of the workgroup, so I left it blank too.
Then I chose the printer model and the paper format and everything was just looking fine, but when it was print the test page, didn't work. Appeared that it was printing, but actually, nothing happened.
So, is anyone know what is going wrong and what should I do to fix it?

Yes, they are. I have windows installed in this machine too and I can access the printer there normally.

I've got exactly the same problem. I'm using mandrake 10.0 and trying to print to a printer on a machine with windows xp. The application apparently print but when you look at the print queue for the printer is saying "processing..." and nothing happens. I'd really like to know the answer to this one.
Thanks.
Mark.

I did this myself a few weeks ago. I am a definate noob with this home networking stuff, but I got it to work just fine. I have a mandriva 2006 box, and a windows2000 box in the same room. the HP printer is connected to the windows box.
There's a great article about this exact topic in a recent Tux Magazine issue. I think it was the April 2006 issue or the March issue. Tells you step by step what to do to print from a mandy 2006 box to a winXP box.
Only problem I had was that after I did everything, nothing was printing.... Turns out that the freebie version on zone alarm I had running on my windows box was denying the connection from my linux box. Just had to click on the zone alarm "alert" and mark it as "trusted".
The Tux magazines are free web mags. you can download the issue and read the article.
