Hi!
I use redhat linux 8 as a samba client and Windows98 as my server between 2 pcs.
I tried to access the printer on windows but samba client was unable to. I have tried the smbclient -L command and the Cannon S300 printer appeared in the list of shared items.
At the command prompt,I typed smbclient //MANCHESTER/CANNON S300 but an error msg appeared. It reads: tree connect failed: ERRinvnetname(Invalid network name in tree connect).
So I tried the command smbclient //MANCHESTER/PRINTERS$. The login was successful as there was the smb:> prompt. Then I typed print /home/share/foods,which is the directory of a text file, but the message appeared. ERRSRV-ERRaccess(The requestor does not have the necessary access rights within the specified context for the requested function. The context is defined by the TID or the UID) opening remote file foods-1192.
These error messages are strange because I have no problem accessing the windows files from linux. But I cannot access the printer.
Do you know what do the error messages mean and how to access the windows printer from linux ? Please reply quickly if you can...thanks !!
