Freezing

Greetings all:

For some reason, my RH8.0 box just started freezing. It boots, but shortly after entering Xwindows it locks up. Now I have noticed that the mouse doesn't seem to be working. System doesn't stay up long enough for me to troubleshoot.

Any ideas?

thanks...

Does your keyboard function.
I've had similar problems with both RH7.2 and 8.0 right after completion of the boot sequence (with X started up and all) the system seems to completely freeze. the mouse and keyboard don't react and pressing numlock or caps lock don't make the light go on which suggests that it doesn't get any juice???

If your problem is similar I'm very curious as to what the problem might be

btw: I don't have this problem in windows

Seems like the same situation. The only thing I can do is reboot but then the problem starts all over again.

Does it happen often with you? b/c with me it happens with only one out of a 100 or so boots.
That's why I haven't bothered to really look in to it so far.
But if someone has an explanation or even a solution of course I'm very interested and I'll try to find out more myself as well, let's search those log files
So, anyone else thing happens/happened to?

I forgot to ask:

What kind of video card do you have?
I have a nvidia geforce2 with the nvidia drivers installed.

nvidia drivers are a consistent source of trouble, so the first thing I would try be setting up the open source (nv) driver for XFree and see what happens with the "freeze".

This guy seems to have had the same problem and solved it:

I haven't tried it myself yet.
