X freezing

Sometimes when I am using Xwindows in Slackware, the whole GUI freezes and I can't fo anything. My computer works fine otherwise - I can serve web pages, hear the music I was listening to, log in via ssh, etc. If I do log in via ssh and run top, X is taking up 99% of my CPU and I have to remotely reboot my computer. It does this with the xfree86 packages and the x11 packages. What could be the cause?

What kind of hardware do you have, most importantly, what type of video card?

Post the output of 'cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log' or equivalent for Xorg.
