Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info

Hi,

I created a new user on ubuntu. I edited the /etc/passwd and /etc/group

When I try to login to the user, I get this error

root@yosi-desktop:/etc# su - oracle
su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info.

What do I miss? Other users on the system don't have this problem.

What exact steps did you take to create a new user? Normal ways (i.e. using 'adduser' utility) do not require manual editing of /etc/passwd or /etc/group.

I found the problem - I had to edit the /etc/shadow file. It works fine now. Thanks
