Authenticatin Service cannot retrieve authentication info

HELP!!

I am quite new to linux and I was playing around with the authentcation settings on Redhat Linux v9. I ticked an option to authenticate via a NIS server and put the ip as 127.0.0.1. When i rebooted, the NIS service failed to start and no I cannot login at the shell prompt, NOT EVEN as root!

What can I do?

Boot the first RHL 9 cdr, at the boot prompt type "linux rescue". This get's you in in rescue mode to make necessary changes.

Ahhh. Stop the NIS server in the runlevel the box usually starts in? Untick NIS server auth if you've got no NIS server to auth to? Add reference to right NIS server IP if you have it?
