all i can say is that this is the WORST upgrade of an OS i have ever done. I work on AIX and other Linux and nothing like this has ever happened to me in the past. So many people with same or similar problems. I gotta wonder did they test the code before telling people it was ready to be upgraded.

very very disappointed in this process.

ok so new day... If anyone can look at my xsession log and help me that would be great.

Also i do remember seeing a message about something like 30 filesets were not supported and would not be upgraded to use some sort of 3 party download site. I wonder if that could be affecting this.

look in /var/log/dist-upgrade

Ok I see these files. Not sure why I see 2 sets of them in the dir. I have more logs but they are to big to post. they are

term_log.txt
apt-term_log.txt
If you need them I can see what i can do to post them up some place.

/var/log/dist-upgrade# ls
20091113-0718 apt.log apt-term.log main.log term.log xorg_fix_intrepid.log
/var/log/dist-upgrade/20091113-0718# ls
apt.log apt-term.log main.log term.log xorg_fix_intrepid.log

Not sure which log to post up so Ill put up the main.log. I looked it over but I dint understand what some of the errors are.

/var/log/dist-upgrade# more xorg_fix_intrepid.log
INFO:root:/usr/bin/update-manager running
DEBUG:root:creating backup '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.dist-upgrade-200911131010'
INFO:root:xserver-xorg-core version is '2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4'
DEBUG:root:is_multiseat: lines 0
DEBUG:root:remove_input_devices
Attached Files
File Type: txt apt_log.txt (37.6 KB, 12 views)
File Type: txt main_log.txt (45.5 KB, 7 views)

Did you tried what was suggested in previous posts?
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...6/#post3755773

Could you describe your problem?
The thread is hard to follow :-)

i moved my /home/usr to an backup location and recreated a blank home dir and was able to login again...
I need ot know how I can get my old stuff back. this is totally insane...
You can put the files back to the new users home directory.
as root
Code:
cp -R /backup/user/* /home/user/
chown -R user:user /home/user/
Then try if it works.

yup tried that. I get the following when i login with that user...

.ICEauthority
/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check2 exited with status 256

then I get a white screen and have to do a ctrl alt F4 to get to a prompt to reboot.
