I have installed RHEL ES version in my workstation. The kernel is 2.4.21-4.ELsmp. The kernel dosent detect my soundcard.

1) The /dev/mixer permission are ok
2) when i do redhat-config-soundcard -> it says soundcard not detected
3) when i give lsmod, i hve soundcore. It shows as follows.

soundcore 7044 0 (autoclean)

But it dosent show snd in module. I am not getting what i should do now.

Someone please write me how to solve the problem

As root look at the output of lspci and post what your soundcard is, something like;
