Help, FC2 ALSA sound works just halfway ???

I have weird problems that took me 2 days already with no positive result.

I do have sound but only half way. Depending on which application I am running, sound either come out of the two front speakers OR the optical out SPDIF to my external receiver, but never both.

Xine and Gnome Player sound go to the Optical SPDIF, but not the Front SPeakers, while XMMS sound goes to the front speakers and not the SPDIF.

ANother weird thing is that when doing Sound Device detection, I it shows sound device is i810_audio instead of snd-intel6x0. I searched for i810_audio and never found such a module. 'lsmod | grep -i i810_audio' produced nothing either.

I installed ALSA without any error shown including the command 'modprobe snd-intel8x0 ......'

I am suspecting my OSS is still being used as the Front End to ALSA since when I run alsamixer, moving the BARS on the ALSA mixer made no difference, but moving the OSS BARS does make a difference in volume.

Besides,

My TVTime has Video but no sound either. And each time I log in I have to do 'modprobe saa7134' to install the Phillips driver, and I ended up putting it in a login script. I use PC-CHIPS TV Tuner card which uses PhiLlip SAA7133.

I have read many threads here and found more Q without much A.

Linux Multimedia gurus, help please ?????

I decided to wipe out my current FC2 which was upgraded from FC1 and restall FC2 from fresh (after set Disk Access to LBA in BIOS). Many headache went away. No more i810_audio which lingers from FC1. All USB NTFS CD, DVD work just right.

My TV now works (Video+sound)
My Sound (Both SPDIF Optical Digital and Analog) works but still one at a time, not both
TV-Out works nicely with the latest NVIDIA driver (came out last week)

I am still looking for solution to my sound issue above. is "help on the way" ? ;^)
