TODO List

Here's my todo list for 2012, in no particular order:
Learn to type, using more than two fingers of one hand.
Learn how to use vim and emacs.
Learn how to program: bash scripting, C, Python or Perl, assembly.
Learn more in general about using GNU/Linux.
But, acknowledging the fact that I'm incurably lazy, I shall be making the same todo list this time next year.

I thought you already had half that down.

As far as vim/emacs goes, learn emacs. Not because I like it more, I really like vim, but because you are more likely to be able to change key codes for emacs style editing in other editors and IDEs. Nobody does modal editing like vim.

From my limited use of both of them, I prefer emacs. But vim is the editor on linux - so I suppose I should make some effort to learn it.

With you on the learning to program one. Here's a couple of resources I'm contemplating:
    www.codeacademy.com
MIT OpenCourseWare introduction into computer science and programming.

Again, like you I'll probably be at the same point in 12 months...

    More todos:
Use the keyboard more, and the rodent less (this ties in with the learning typing, of course).
Use the CLI more (console, no X).
    Try tiling window managers.

Mmm, I think that's enough to be going on with...if I achieve any of these, IT WILL BE A MIRACLE!!!

As far as tiling WMs are concerned, make sure you try i3.

Thanks. I was weighing up all(?) the tiling WMs on their websites for ages yesterday, trying to make up my mind. Will go for i3.
