Question JRE installed but not detected in firefox

I apologize in advance if I have picked the wrong forum.

I have installed JRE on my completely fresh SuSE 10 system (a possible windows convert in the making ) and the RPM install went fine, but the web-page that required the jre still does not work, and firefox can't detect it.

Is there anything that I am likely to have missed, being a noob and all ?

In debian, I downloaded and installed from here

I however used the .bin(self-extracting binary) file. Not the rpm. I followed the instructions here Those instrucitons are for debian, but it said they were very similar to the ones on Java's website. Hope this helps

find the java plugin
it looks like this path jre/plugin/i386/ns7/

but find with this command
find / -name libjavaplugin*.so

then you need to know the plugin directory of firefox or mozilla
find / -name plugin

(you will recognize it by the name of firefox or mozilla)

then you create a symbolic link from the javaplugin to the firefox plugin directory
(ln -s /...../ns7/ /...../plugin )

after this you will see at the url aboutlugins this plugin listed

JRE doesn't work with SuSE 10

I have tried all of the above with no success. Below is "java" at the command line:

LinuxAsus:/usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29 # java
Usage: java [-options] class [args...]
(to execute a class)
or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...]
(to execute a jar file)

where options include:
-d32 use a 32-bit data model if available

-d64 use a 64-bit data model if available
-client to select the "client" VM
-server to select the "server" VM
-hotspot is a synonym for the "client" VM [deprecated]
The default VM is client.

-cp <class search path of directories and zip/jar files>
-classpath <class search path of directories and zip/jar files>
A : separated list of directories, JAR archives,
and ZIP archives to search for class files.
set a system property
enable verbose output
-version print product version and exit
require the specified version to run
-showversion print product version and continue
-jre-restrict-search | -jre-no-restrict-search
include/exclude user private JREs in the version search
-? -help print this help message
-X print help on non-standard options
enable assertions
disable assertions
-esa | -enablesystemassertions
enable system assertions
-dsa | -disablesystemassertions
disable system assertions
load native agent library <libname>, e.g. -agentlib:hprof
see also, -agentlib:jdwp=help and -agentlib:hprof=help
load native agent library by full pathname
load Java programming language agent, see java.lang.instrument

Any one have any ideas
