thanks!

i just checked out the instructuions from your first post.

but it didn't help - maybe because i installed "jre.....rpm.bin) is that what they are asking for??? or just .bin?? how i can get rid of the installed version?? just delete the folder???

i just left windows behind and having severe problems with four issues (java, video-card, sound-card, card-reader) - everything else is just GREAT!!!!

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#rpm
Read the instructions, that should help.
You did not say which distro that you were using.

If you're using BSD you will have to compile java from source.

thanks for the help-but i finally fgured out that only jre 1.5.x can be installed and wokring properly - all instructions for jre 1.4.1_02 didn't help - so i'll stick around with 1.5.x even if i would need 1.4.1_02 for some apps what i use - hope they change that soon!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

i still have three other problems!!! (not solved)
