Firefox and JRE

I already posted a question about this but I'm still experiencing problems.
I need Java JRE 1.4.2 for my netbanking. I made the slink for the plugin as described in various topics on this forum.

But whenever I open a firefox window, it immediately closes. I tried installing JRE 1.5, and this one works, but it isn't an option since my netbanking site doesn't work with it (yet).

Any ideas?

In the directory /usr/lib/jre/plugin/i386 there are three different directories each with a different plugin. Have you tried using the one in the ns610-gcc32 directory?

Yes, I tried it. Then Firefox starts up, but when I go to my netbanking site, I just get a white window with Done in the statusbar.

Probably helpful: when I start Firefox from the console:

INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: No manager for initializing factory?

System error?:: Success

Do you have the flash plugin installed also? Have you checked Suse for any updates / upgrades which it may need?
Other than that I'm out of ideas.
