How to mount ISO image for use

Hello everyone,

I just switched to SUSE 10.1 from Mandriva. I loved Mandriva but I'm already hooked on SUSE. Yast makes management so incredibly easy.

I was wondering if it's possible to mount an ISO image file for use from the filesystem as if you were using the DVD or CDROM drive ? I know at work, using windows xp, we use a utility called "Daemon tools" that lets you rip cd's and dvd's into ISO files right onto your hard-drive, then mount the ISO file using daemon tools and access them as if you had the original disc in a CD or DVDROM drive. Does anybody know if there is a way to do this in Linux ? This may be more of general topic than just SUSE but I thought I would ask here since that is what I am now using.

Thanks in advance for any feedback....

mike

Yes you can mount an ISO (or any other kind) image to use the files, just use the mount command. Just add the "-o loop" option
Code:
mount /path/to/image.iso /path/to/mount/to -t iso9660 -o loop
if it's a DVD with you may have to use udf instead of iso9660
You must run that command as root, also this will mount it so only root can use it so you can add "uid=(username)"
No need for any 3rd party tools to do this, Linux has it built in.
