Im using openSuse and when i install a theme with the gnome theme manager it says installed successfully but never shows up in the manager. GDM themes wont work at all, it says wrong file type. i dont knwo what version of gnome im running because i dont know how to find out
For gdm themes, you need to run a program called "gdmsetup". As for why the themes you installed don't work, it could be that they are not full fledged themes, so take a look in the various sections of the theme manager to see if elements of the theme you installed show up.
ok that fixed one question i had, the other is how to change the desktop theme, thats what i was talkin about in the question, gdmsetup lets me change the login screens, which was one of my missions anyways, the actual problem is the theme manager for the desktop themes.
well the thing is that it says it installed successfully, but they never show up at all
It may have installed as one of the theme _components_. This would explain why you can't find it under the full-blown theme tab. Look in the other sections of the theme manager to see if you can find the name of the particular component that you installed. If you still can not locate it then please post a link to the theme so we can try to duplicate your results.
