Requesting help on installing Solaris8.0-Intel(still issues)
Hello,
I'm having (more than) a little trouble , installing Solaris 8.0 for Intel on my machine.
Actually , I just tried to install it once and completely blew my Linux-installs to smithereens.
Lots of data lost , but that's what I got for trying something I didn't have the slightest clue about.
What I'd like to know is :
How do I install Solaris 8.0 for Intel on my machine , without destroying my other installs , so I can boot it via LILO?
Having it available would be quite handy , since I'm following a Unix-Linux-course(1 evening in a week) and the UNIX used in that one is Solaris 8.0.
I'd love to be able to do some work on it at home , instead of just relying on the SunBlades we have at school.

Useful infos are available at: http://multiboot.solaris-x86.org/
If I can give you only four advices:
- do not create a partition under linux to receive Solaris, just let the disk have some space available for Solaris to create its own partition at installation time.
- do not choose the option to have a dedicated solaris boot partition, this is mostly useless
- install solaris from CD 1 of 2, not from the Installation CD, which is not adapted to multiboot.
- read carefully all the questions asked, and do not answer without understanding their meaning ...

OK that took longer than I planned , but now , I have Solaris8 up and crawling....
Somewhat....
Here's the situation:
Installed Solaris 8 on my secundary master ; a 4GB Quatum Bigfoot.
But...
The installation didn't recognise either my NIC (Realtec 8139) , nor my videa-card (NVidia Geforce 256 DDR)
So ; I can't connect to the internet , so I can't download/install the proper graphics-driver.
Meanwhile , my desktop looks so bad , it's nigh impossible top work with it.
I did google for proper graphics drivers , but couldn't find 'em.(yet..)
Questions :
A.- Are there actually any drivers , for my NIC? , if so : Where? Sun's site isn't too helpfull in this regard.
B.- Idem for Graphics-drivers.
C.- If , by some insane strike of luck , I manage to find aforementioned drivers ; How do I install them?
Again ; Any help would be highly appreciated.

There are drivers for your network card (I'm using one based on the same chipset), and probably for your video card too, but I don't think they exist for Solaris 8, you'd better switch to Solaris 10 at the end of the month.

I managed to find a driver for my NIC , allright.(Still need to install it)
But going with Solaris 10 is not an option at the moment : As mentioned in the first post , I need it for the study , I'm doing and the material is based on S 8.
S 10 may be too different from 8 for my purposes.
But I found out , S 8 should be able to run (more likely crawl...) on my Toshiba Tecra500CDT , so if I manage to get me a boot-floppy , I could use that craptop for the study-purpose.
