a4z Hi,
as a result of temporarily bans (several days) for nearly each post on LQ I
did in the last months, I decided to cancel my paid LQ subscription. Now
the LQ mod has banned me for ever.
The last refuge of the anti-social and blunt, but brillant mind is being overrun with fucking snowflakes whose skin is thinner than paper and tears easier. It took steel to build what the over sensitive world enjoys and abuses while the greedy make all the money and give shit dick all back. Fuck em, let their computers break down and horde the tissue paper as they cry like babies.
Now here's an example of why it's often not a good idea to use four-letter words. The sentiment of this post is something I absolutely agree with. I am sick and tired of millennials and their social justice agenda. When I was at university back in the 1960s, we all believed in free speech. Now young people go to something called "uni" and believe in "safe spaces" and no-platforming.
But a lot of people reading the above post are not even going to check whether the argument makes sense. They are just going to see the F-bombs and not bother to look for anything else.
Then why don't you two "walk away" already and build your own forum, with blackjack and hookers; I am sure it will be glorious
Lol, I'm not sure what happened here. I tried editing the duplicates and found the content changed in all three posts! I was able to reproduce this when I changed the content of the post back.
Yeah, I also noticed all three had the same number of likes, or whatever it's called. Weird glitch.
Then why don't you two [removed] already and build your own forum, with blackjack and hookers; I am sure it will be glorious
Excuse me but what have blackjack and hookers got to do with not liking social justice warriors? Come to that, what have they got to do with Linux?
I think the question of how robust the discussion in a technical forum like this should be is a valid one, though maybe it would have been better to have it in the Feedback rather the Slackware forum.
While many regulars will know that I would frequently get involved in discussions with Darth Vader and a4z that weren't the most productive, I will be sad to see them go. Even though there was a lot of controversy surrounding many of their posts/threads, they did still provide valuable information/perspectives.
That being said, whether or not people agree with it, they were warned countless times against their behavior and chose to continually ignore the requests of the mods/admin. It doesn't surprise me it lead to a permanent ban. At least with Darth, you can argue that it might be cultural differences that led to him posting like he does, but after repeated warnings by mods to change, at what point does it become Darth's fault for not listening rather than the mods/admin for enforcing rules? (I'm not sure I knew where a4z was from, so I'm not sure if his posting style was possibly cultural or something else.)
I do hope to see them back here at some point with the passion they've shown in the past, but hopefully without being so confrontational.
Didier, your posting style has never been similar to theirs, so it would be uncharacteristic for you to get banned unless you do something out of the norm. I hope you choose to stay here and continue helping people as you have over the many years you've been here.

It is not about social justice. This forum and its rules have existed long before Millenials/SJW became broadly noticable/influential on the internet. Latter ones just recently came into "maturity" and started spreading their agenda all over the web.
The issue is about disruptive* people. When I post in a technical forum then I do not need someone making several posts about his opinion without contributing anything useful about the problem. I object to being labelled as a SJW just because I do not want to waste my time with their monkeyshines and shenanigans.
You just read a few trigger words and branded everyone who supports those bans as social justice warriors (ironic, since I myself strongly dislike the social justice agenda, but that is another issue). Well, obviously, you just got "offended" yourself or at least had some kind of emotional response, which is why you felt the need to go online and make a strong statement with some strong language. You are not as profoundly different from a snowflake as you might think - only you use (and/or at least seem to appreciate, judging by the post you quoted) "strong" words like "[removed]", "[removed]" and probably even "Hell, yeah!", too. We all have our triggers, not all necessarily the same ones.
I personally do not mind "strong" language, though I'd rather prefer if we could do without it. However, there are other people here who do mind and which one hardly can call SJW, e.g., Christians do absolutely not like such language. As far as I know Christians are a "high" priority target of social justice warriors since Christians try to uphold values (family, don't be gay etc.) that are incompatible with the left wing SJW agenda.

No, Hazel, it's not. LQ has always been clear where it stands on this. If there is a conflict between "robust" and "on-topic", we prioritize "on-topic". How you're supposed to make your on-topic contributions is governed by the LQ rules. In all cases, you're expected to take mod warnings seriously and not to ignore them. This is not a recent change or new-generation thing. It was like this long before you joined and, indeed, long before I joined.
I understand Darth could be annoying, however I have seen someone bring up his nationality as an argument against him. This is something that IMHO is totally unacceptable, however it was left unnoticed.
Well, hell. I'm sorry to hear about this. I found both Darth and a4z to have useful information. They might have rubbed some people the wrong way, but they were no pompous_ninjas.
Also, I hope ivandi doesn't decide to leave. I'm hoping that sometime in the near future I'll be worthy of his respect.

But is really about they not respecting the rules, or about a certain group of users who made a sport from reporting their posts as being trolling?
Yes, I talk about revenge reporting, from whatever righteous or mischievous reasons.
Apparently, at least from a4z statements, someone reported nearly every of his posts even in the last months his discourse was like this

I ask this, because some years ago I was moderator in a forum, and I observed that some people (ab)use the reporting to take down users who they consider undesirable.

Also mods can have it in for some users. Years ago I was put on moderated posts on another forum, meaning my posts had to be approved each time before they appeared online. After a while they stopped being approved at all. If I logged out I could see that each one of my posts had been deleted, rather than approved, by the same mod even though their content was perfectly innocent, and it was a mod who I suspected had it in for me.
