I had issues with some people in the pass and got warnings, but I won't speak about a person that can't defend themselves. If you got a personal issue PM and try to come up with a solution. Everyone can be annoying including myself at times, regardless of their tech savvy skills. If the major players are all banned or left for whatever reason, then the forum doesn't serve a purpose in such a sense.

All of you posting here about how bad it is what happened, free speech etcetera. Please read the forum rules, they are linked at the right of your page.
This forum is meant to be a friendly place where people come together to help one another. If you think the forum rules are not compatible with you, no one forces you to post here.
I have admin-ed IRC channels, let me say sometimes even solid contributors can get banned if they are anti-social, abusive and not listening to reason.

a4z said he left Slackware for good: https://lists.slackbuilds.org/piperm...er/022243.html. It's a shame.

I highly doubt there is any sort of conspiracy, nor do have any reason to think this is going to be an ongoing trend.
That being said, both were entirely capable of being actually helpful at times. It is sad see them gone.

The issues reported by Darth Vader about Plasma 5 with certain AMD graphics cards, happened also with my Radeon HD4350 until v5.13.x. And I remember certainly that he presented even screenshots about how those issues manifests.

However, and I suppose for fixing those issues, Darth Vader proposed (and was accepted) patches for xf86-video-ati and X.org.

Also made me to think the sudden frenzy xf86-video-ati development after Darth Vader identified it as a possible fault on Plasma 5. Considering that he's a former distribution maintainer, I do not exclude him to have some contacts in the developers world, and in a way or other he may be behind this certain "push" for this video driver.

He was even present multiple times in the ChangeLog, so I think is really sad to read that he did contributed no helpful information.

Maybe share an opinion occasionally, but maybe it's counter-productive to keep pushing the same opinion again and again (which is what Vader and a4z had in common).
Yeah, that's the actual reason for the two bans. The LQ administration has made clear that posts in technical forums are supposed to remain "on-topic". Note how often the phrase "(off|on)-topic" shows up in pubic mod warnings.

There has been a sudden increase in AMD GPU quality in the drivers. The reason I have the demonic Ubuntu (Xubuntu) logo is that 4.14 will not boot into a graphical mode on my new Ryzen. Even with no mod setting, it wants 4.15 at least. Not exactly related to X but distros with a default 4.15 or higher also tend to have newer X. Yes, I could fiddle around and do some boot wizardry and use a non-systemd distro and make it work but just do not have the time presently.

Now here's an example of why it's often not a good idea to use four-letter words. The sentiment of this post is something I absolutely agree with. I am sick and tired of millennials and their social justice agenda. When I was at university back in the 1960s, we all believed in free speech. Now young people go to something called "uni" and believe in "safe spaces" and no-platforming.

But a lot of people reading the above post are not even going to check whether the argument makes sense. They are just going to see the F-bombs and not bother to look for anything else. Remember the old song?

Anything goes!
A few judicious edits to use "better words" would go a long way.

A privately owned forum is the wrong venue to argue free speech and this has nothing to do with age groups.

This is obligatory...

I see a4z said he has cancelled his subscriptions. Good way to lose revenue when everyone is banned or has left. Things like this will happen and will cause financial headaches.

Sensitive people shouldn't be on the internet. I have learned whether someone is rude or polite we can't change that fact. I learned to be rude or polite to others etc.. Two wrongs don't make it right but makes it even.

How could he still have had a subscription?

I am looking forward to being able to help Mr. Volkerding. I really like Paypal.

Lol, I'm not sure what happened here. I tried editing the duplicates and found the content changed in all three posts! I was able to reproduce this when I changed the content of the post back.
