From http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slackware A humorous reference to the Church of the Subgenius can be found in many versions of the install.end text files, which indicate the end of a software series to the setup program. In recent versions, including Slackware release 14.1, the text is ROT13 obfuscated.
I have been lurking in this forum for a while and find myself attracted to the Slackware "KISS" philosophy . I was about to try an install a little while back (Didier fielded a question or two - thanks Didier) but was put off by all the sub genius / Bob references eg see above. So for me the change would be for Slackware to stand by itself and remove the linkages/ references - no offence intended.

No offense taken. So you're refusing to try out Slackware because of Bob and/or Sub Genius references. Just curious. Do the references offend your moral, ethical, or religious sensibilities?

If it were all a bit of fun and "in joke" that would be fine but it seems that there is an actual Church of the SubGenius and yes I personally would be uncomfortable with what appear to be their beliefs. In itself that is not an issue but it seems PK is involved with that Church which again is of course his own business - but when it is linked to Slackware (e.g. The install.end files and the frequent references to Bob etc here on the forum ) then that , for me , casts a cloud over Slackware.

I had to google this. I've never seen a reference to either this church or "bob" in slackware. I don't read the .end files though *shrug*
Nothing wrong with good ol' Bob and the Subgenius folks. We embrace the philosophical view of the pursuit of Slack. After all as an IT technician, having less to worry about gives you time to relax at work, do research, and develop new methods and not stay late afterhours trying to figure out endless problems. After all you don't want worse problems than having to reset Steve in Sales email client on a daily basis because he got click happy with the mouse.
Here we go again. Someone taking the SubGenius thing seriously.
P.S.
Anyone else remember someone years ago objecting to the use of the word "daemon" in Linux? Can't remember if it was in this or another forum on LQ.
IN the VideoLAN forums, every year there will be a couple of people objecting to the Santa Hat which crowns the VLC icon during the last weeks of december. Some people have no sense of humor and/or take everything seriously.
