PS: After March 2016 google-chrome will stop developments for linux 32 bits, but it will be available for linux 64 bits. I'm very happy with Vivaldi snapshots, it is faster and has more features than google-chrome.
If you prefer to stick with Chrome itself, an option would be to just manually install newer versions of Chrome rather than relying on the auto-updater (or ignoring the message if you are installing manually already). Ruario's script for latest-chrome can come in handy when doing so.
Sorry, it was more a joke about my linux system, Slackware 64 14.1 all up to date, being outdated? rather than about chrome, I am using Ruario's script.

My understanding is that from March there won't be any new versions of chrome for 32bit. This issue isn't about the auto-updater. While switching to chromium is an option the question becomes: where will those that need it get pepper flash? Not that I'd be sad to see flash die out completely, but some sites still require it so having it embedded in chrome was useful.
