This computer will stop receiving Google Chrome updates because this Linux system will no longer be supported.

Get Chromium from AlienBOB's repository. That's assuming that you have Slackware version 13.37 or newer.

Try Vivaldi web browser, it is like google-chrome and better
https://vivaldi.net/en-US/

PS: After March 2016 google-chrome will stop developments for linux 32 bits, but it will be available for linux 64 bits. I'm very happy with Vivaldi snapshots, it is faster and has more features than google-chrome.

If you prefer to stick with Chrome itself, an option would be to just manually install newer versions of Chrome rather than relying on the auto-updater (or ignoring the message if you are installing manually already). Ruario's script for latest-chrome can come in handy when doing so.

Sorry, it was more a joke about my linux system, Slackware 64 14.1 all up to date, being outdated? rather than about chrome, I am using Ruario's script.

Then consider marking it as [SOLVED]. And next time, please don't make us waste our time. Thanks in advance.

Wow. Everyone's on edge from the pulseaudio/PAM/free-non-free flame wars.

I figured that it was a joke from the start. Come on, who writes "oh my what am I to do?" nowadays?

My understanding is that from March there won't be any new versions of chrome for 32bit. This issue isn't about the auto-updater. While switching to chromium is an option the question becomes: where will those that need it get pepper flash? Not that I'd be sad to see flash die out completely, but some sites still require it so having it embedded in chrome was useful.

+1 @sircranium

I also appreciated the op's levity, though in monsieur didier's defence, the nuance was, perhaps,'lost in translation.'

as to the never-ending pam thread, I hope it continues 'ad infinitum' because i do find it entertaining and thought-provoking, despite others' seeming exasperation with the whole thing...

cheers,

That was my read as well. A little levity is just fine.

Yes. Maybe I should just stop answering questions in foreign languages.
