Slackware64 current, no sound (I think it hassomething to do with drives)
Hi, this is my first post here. I'm actually sort of newbie on linux and before you ask me "why in the hell am I using slackware(ain't it would be better if it was wareforslack?)" I say, thinks can be better to get when its hard to get!
So the problem is, and I'm sure that some of you already had that, any sound! Any noyse, nowhere... lspci | grep Audio returns me my sound card, but the kde shows a notification that was no possible do use. (A have a vostro V14T-5470)
Please run the command lspci from the command line and post the relevant portion of the output here, being sure to surround them with "Code" tags which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the "compose post" window.
For example, from the computer I'm using right now:
What was the output of "lspci | grep Audio?" I'm not sure why the error massages are taking place but I'm wondering if there are multiple devices and ALSA is choosing the wrong one. If you would, please open a terminal and post the results of...
Hi guys, thanks to answer me. So, I'm in that for a week, and I would show the output of lspci | grep Audio , if I could.I've got a juge new problem trying to actualize using slapt-get --upgrade. After rebooting I couldn't even get acess to the system anymore. In the login a enter root and my pass, it dysplays that message like always ("You have a mail: ""the weird or great message""""") And it doesn't root, just aks my login again. This is an infinite loop. Something went really wrong trying to upgrade.
Would you guys try to help me in that first, then I'll be able to solve the problems with audio later. Can be something to do with files that script the login, but where? I really newbie yet!
I have another linux in the same machine, therefore I can try to fix slack by there.
What was this "weird or great" message? Please be sure to give us details on what you're seeing, otherwise we won't be able to be of much help to you.
Regards...
Nothing important my friend, that "mail" with easter eags like things, I mean, those random messages from the producers. The trouble is that when I enter a wrong password or login, it says that it is wrong. Good, but when I enter the write data it just repeats all the procedure again and again and so on.
PS: I said wrong or great regarding what the message is about, it can be about politcs. Someday it showed sometinhg like:
Quote:
"If vote had the power to change, it would be illegal
If vote had the power to (don't really remenber what was here), it would be illegal
someone "
I totally agree with you man, "every distro can be hads on", but distros like slackware forces you to use termianl, after all who would use terminal do do thinks that can be done with one click? With less hands one I meant something in the midle.
The OP also mentions 'using slapt-get --upgrade' in post #4, which is a likely cause of the borked upgrade, as slapt-get is not an official Slackware upgrade tool.
I really think the OP would be happier with another distribution; Salix comes to mind.
Thanks for the replies guys. The problem wasn't solved yet and I've tried almost everything. I've been tried to recompile and upgrade my kernel (3.18) to the 4.0 . For this one friend advised-me to use sakc and create a .config file specific for my hardware. I'm literally failing trying to do so 'case when it starts to uncompact the kernel 4.0, by sakc, just got an error:
Code:
Failed exit code 2
What could be it?
sysfs is mounted, alsamixer is with all volume high and not mute (MM). One thing is that my headphones or speakers( not both at the same time) are wheezing in just one side. When a open alsamixer i can change the side of the wheezing by pressing M in the headset option of pch card menu. But I still can't here any kind of actual sound(wich make sense).
I'm in a genuine slackware now, no slapt get anymore.
