yeah thats true enough robby.
actually, opinion does show that alot of people like the new logo.
personally I dont like it because Ive got bad eyes and I find it difficult to read, but I agree that at the end of the day the important thing is the os not the logo.
As with anything, most of the people who respond will have negative opinions.
How often do you call a store to say *good* things about the person who helped you?
How often do you call the telephone numbers on the back of trucks (you know, the ones that say "How's My Driving?") to say that the driver was doing an excellent job?
I suspect that most people either a) don't care either way as long as Slackware is Slackware, or b) like the new logo.
I think a lot of the feedback is good for Slackware. The complaints are out weighed by the positive responses. The positive responses seem to outline a composed response rather than 'I don't like it'.
Our society has been growing negative for far to long. Most of us were busy raising families, building careers or just down right not concerned about the environment around ourselves. I'm a lot older and my point of view has matured. I'm not as quick to fire and I seem to think more before I trigger. Now that I've got some time on my hands, I tend to get more involved with some things.
Yes, I do sometimes provide feedback for a job that is well done or above an beyond their job description. Praise is good but not always warranted.
I like the new logo aesthetically: I find it eye-catching and clever. Plus I'm all 'bout this kind of reversibility ... it's very Douglas Hofstadter or even George Perec ...
If I have an issue with the logo it is that it doesn't really 'speak' anything (to me, anyway) specific to Slackware. Maybe I'm just not seeing it.
The old logo, with its clear, unambiguous text, made sense to me as an 'expression' of what I have always loved about this distro: clarity, precision, expressiveness.
Except that it is probably a bit twirly and doesn't integrate with the Slackware website very much with its blocky theme, I don't find much wrong with the logo when I see it stand-alone.
Anyway, does anybody have a link to the old logo image?
You may have noticed that Pat updated the logo on the web site with a version that is rendered more properly. The bad rendering of the original vector graphics was due to a Gimp bug (really!).
I also updated my version of the LILO splash screen with the new logo, get it at http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slacknew.bmp

Eric
Thanks again, I downloaded and updated my splash screen

Does anyone have a link to a nice SVG or scalable version of the logo? I was thinking about making a wallpaper but I want a nice clean version of the logo to start with.
