Problem Printing to D-Link Print Server

Hello everyone.

So, I've got a few printer problems here. Right now, I have a Samsung ML-1430 hooked into the printer port of a D-link DI-707P router. Works just fine in windows. I installed the linux software for it (comes with the printer, pretty neat) on my box, but I can't seem to make it work. I've tried using the "Remote LPD" type of connection, with the host being 192.168.0.1 and the queue being lp, but that doesn't work. When I do lpstat -t, it just tells me that the print job has been saved, and has too many errors to go on. So, then I changed it to a "Remote Socket Printer", using port 515 according to nmap, with the same host, and that still doesn't work. Any ideas?

BTW, at one point without the software installed, just using...I believe rlpd, I managed to get the printer to rev up, and the data light flashed once, but that was all. :P

Tried using CUPS yet? I've successfully
printed with it to HP, Lexmark and Lantronix
print-servers...

Cheers,

Honestly, I haven't, I've only heard a little about it. Someone told me that you had to have a CUPS server installed on the machine connected to the printer, though? Obviously you can't do that with a router....but if anyone has any CUPS config guides or anything, it'd be appreciated. : )

CUPS is the way to go. I'm using a Linksys print server connected to my router with CUPS and it works fine. It took a little bit of playing with the configuration, but I've got it set up as LPD.

If you're looking for documentation, cups.org is the place to start.

Ummm ... don't listen to them. ;)

That's BS. Cups can print to lp, usb, sockets,
remote lprs....

Cheers,
Tink
