You can copy the wicd package from /extra on your installation DVD (and install it with installpkg), which will make it easy to connect to the internet both in a wired and wireless way.
If you plan on using WICD don't change anything. Most of the time WICD will work right out of the box after you setup the sec key.
Afterwards if you still have trouble visit link as described in post #2.
Happy Slackin'!
As others have said, you should have no problem once wicd is installed, but I'm curious about your inability to connect via cable.
Without wicd, you can run netconfig as root, and set up your eth0 in that manner; perhaps if wicd doesn't work, you can give this a shot and report back if there are errors.
The very 1st thing you need to check, BEFORE wicd, netconfig, etc. is to make ABSOlUTELY sure that the kernel module drivers for your network chipsets are loaded. Do the devices appear in lspciand/or lsusb? What network modules are loaded (lsmod)?
Broadcom network devices are often extra troubling. For wifi b43 will load but that is the wrong one for the newer ones. Same goes for the wired one.
So check you hardware specs, tell us WHAT LAPTOP you are using, and post back.
Hi.
I just did a fresh install of SlackWare 13.37 and I would like to add packages such as WICD, Thunderbird, VLC, etc.
The problem I have is that I haven't been able to get connected to the INTERNET and use the slackpack tool
I haven't even been able to get connected with my laptop hard wired to the router.
So if somebody can point out what file I have to modify in order to get connected. I will appreciate it.
Thank you!
You really have not provided enough information in order for us to aid you in getting the network operable.
Look at this FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.
