I tried the above suggestion. No dice.

the same error messages as before.

this one:

XF86Config: line 439: depth: Command not found
XF86Config: line 439: Modes: Command not found

hrm...is there any path variable in the xf86config file???...maybe it is looking for some commands that are in a different dir???

Where did you get the Slackware CD from? I used the DVD version that was supposed to be bootable, from the cover of Linux Format, but it had corrupted directories and wouldn't "startx" at all.

In the end I had to switch to a PCPlus cover DVD, and burn the CD from there, which worked but had no localisation files.

If you can get hold of another copy try installing that one.

Cheers
Amos

xf86config - configures your X server
startx - initiates your X server
xwmconfig - choose the defualt Window Manger (KDE, Gnome, etc.)

You're lucky with the iso's. I couldn't even get a single iso to burn properly! I had to download all the files after I spent a day trying to get RH7.3 installed(hardware problems...), and then it took me about half an hour to figure out how to locate my media source! Maybe you should do as I did and download all the packages, boot the computer with a disk or your CD, then install from your hard drive?

it created the disk , but after it , while trying to run the linux , i notice that the diskete was corrupted . . .

so now i wanna create another diskete that will boot my slackware 9.1 . . . but without going throught the instalation process all over again . . .
