That seems to me that you did not make your system a multilib system. Since Steam is a 32 bit application this is needed. You can find the instructions for going multilib on AlienBob's site also.
Though my problem hasn't got to do with Steam, it is about making my system multilib (32bit libraries AND 64 bit libraries).
pulseaudio doesn't require a multilib setup, so there was probably something else that actually caused the issue, even if it was solved by going multilib (possibly installing a package that contains both 32bit and 64bit binaries).
