How do I get USB-Ethernet adapter working in Slackware 10.2

Hi all,

I just installed Slackware 10.2, but I cannot get my USB 2.0 Ethernet adapter to work. I use in in Windows to access broadband internet.

The model is a Netgear FA120. I've browsed some forums and people have got it to work in Ubuntu and Mandriva.

Could anyone show me how to do it on Slackware?

I think my kernel is 2.4.31

Thanks

what kernel installed and what does lsmod and lsusb show? If the FA120 shows then pppoe-setup can get u going--assuming not on network.
What driver,module(s) does Xandros use?
Happy Slacking.

My Slackware settings (lsmod and lsusb)

Thanks for the reply!

When I typed lsmod, it showed (typed in manually here)

snd-pcm-oss 36736 0 (unused)
snd-mixer-oss 12376 0 [snd-pcm-oss]
parport_pc 15044 1 (autoclean)
lp 6044 0 (autoclean)
parport 22824 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp]
usb_ohci 19368 0 (unused)
ehci-hcd 17516 0 (unused)
usbcore 59148 1 [usb-ohci ehci-hcd]
snd-intel8x0 18304 3
snd-ac97-codec58556 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-pcm 54344 1
snd-timer 13764 1
snd 32772 1
soundcore 3396 4
snd-page-alloc 4712 0
ohci1394 23888 0
ieee1394 41636 0
pcmcia_core
ide-scsi
agpgart

lsusb shows in my Slackware setup:

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

just blank, even though my netgear is plugged into the USB port.

Xandros is on my other partiton, and on its lsmod it also shows a "usbnet" module, with a sub-module called "asix". I can't find that asix module on Slackware, only usbnet.

Hope this info is of use. How do I compile the asix module?

Thanks,

Jason

Update - USB-Ethernet adapter problem solved!

I just discovered an easy way to connect up to the net - I simply unplugged the USB connector, did a modprobe usbnet, and then plugged back in. Voila! It just works!

Thanks for your input!
