Problems with USB ethernet adapter
Hi,
I got an old laptop from my father (Dell Inspiron 4000) and decided to try Ubuntu Linux on it. The distro was recommended to me by a friend as it works on most laptops out-of-box.
True enough, almost everything went fine, but I'm facing a too big problem for my little self at getting my SMC Networks' USB to Ethernet adapter working (RTL8150) chip. I've tried loading the rtl8150 module and many USB related modules with modprobe, and bringing up the eth with ifconfig eth0 up, but to no avail (read another topic about the same matter here at linuxquestions.org).
I'm quite desperate with this, so does any of you gurus have a helping word to say..?
BTW, I understand doing dhcpd eth0 should be done when bringing the thing up, but my box doesn't recognise the command. Does it really matter?
