I practically never post in forums (pretty sure I haven't here), but this has me pissed off enough to do it. I've spent more money on Slackware than any other operating system, with the assumption that my money was going to the project. Maybe back in the Walnut Creek days, but apparently not anymore. It'd be totally worth $5-$10 a month for a subscription or whatever once that gets set up. In the meantime, a donation will have to do. This has been my OS of choice since getting a hold of Slackware 3.3 from a friend, having to learn it knowing only about four or five commands going in. I'd rather not give it up.

I think the community has held it well in this topic and it's a nice sign of respect for the distro and PV's [improving] situation that we've kept on topic. I agree, and was about to post the same. The reason why Pat shared his PP link should be clear to everyone by now. Those who don't want to use it, or cannot, do have a PO BOX address available. Now let's be patient, and wait for Pat to share his decision for long-term support. It might take a while, but at least two temporary solutions are in place, which is good.

I was sad to hear this news, we live in such an ungrateful world :/ I have sent Pat 50 bucks, and will try to do so annually. Considering that Windows 10 Pro is 300 USD and that Slackware is 30 times more useful, this is far less then he deserves. But alas like Pat I am not a rich man myself. Anyway, I hope this helps a little bit. And I hope other users of this wonderful piece of art will chip in as well

I never liked the store, so I really hope more options to support the project (and Patrick) would become available in future and published on slackware.com, because I believe this would allow more people to donate (also regularly) and help.

Just donated 20 euros to you, Patrick, through your PayPal account. That's all I could afford right now, but I plan on donating more, and making this a regular/monthly donation.

For the hardware, take a look at what OpenBSD is doing, since they have a "hardware wanted" on their page. Then let people donate!

Liberapay may be a good option, but they seem to have some issues at the moment with their credit card processor.

Like others have said, maybe setting up a Foundation for Slackware, or using the service of an existing Foundation, is the way to go. Much better in the long term, but it will probably consume more time in the sort term.

BUT, much more importantly!! THANK YOU for everything you have done. My first install of Linux was way back in 1995, and it was Slackware Linux. I still use it to this day, it's my go-to Linux when I need something set up quickly and maintained easily. You have changed my life, and I cannot express my gratitude enough.

PayPal works fine but there's a fee for using it.
Some dislike its services for a number of reasons.

So here's a different suggestion.

Why not set up bank account specifically for donations.
Every bank account has a unique IBAN number as well as Swift number.

This way anyone with a banking account can send you the donation without using PayPal or other services.

Might be something for consideration at least :-)

I second that proposal. I also dislike PayPal and would prefer direct bank to bank transfer (even though there would be more or less hidden fee as well, probably).


Anyway, in case it was not already suggested, some conspicuous pointer on the main Slackware web page could be helpful, like "Support the project" link in the menu, and then page with list of options how to do that.

bank account might be one of the options, probably a good one for transfers from USA, but fees from Europe are enormous (last time I checked). I think paypal is actually much cheaper for transfers from around the world.
not saying that paypal is the best, but for me it's much better than bank account.

I like to have the DVDs when there is a new release. I find it more convenient to use for restore and installations and save some time instead of iso media. Also believe it might be more easy to generate revenue by offering these as well. With some T-shirts and other stuff it would be just as good and better than the other store and the income would go to the rightful place.
