So who knows what to believe? Just use the PayPal link until Pat publishes something official.
According to this site the developer should get money for the HelloTux shirts:

https://www.hellotux.com/for_developers.php

"- Donation to your project. A fixed amount of money in Euros or in US dollar from the price of every product sold with your logo. If you can't accept money donations, we can solve this too."

and this site:

https://www.hellotux.com/slackware_polo_shirt_black

"This is an official product in cooperation with the Slackware developers. "

If this site was donating to Slackware, they might've been using the donate link on the store page, which we all know now wasn't going to Pat. It might be worth reaching out to the company to see how they're supporting Slackware, and if they're aware of the news that Pat wasn't receiving donations from the store.

I think we should wait to hear from the man himself about which are legitimate ways to donate. Right now we have two official ways to donate directly to Pat:

1. https://www.paypal.me/volkerdi

2. PO BOX 172, Sebeka, MN 56477

I think that Pat will let us know here if there are other official ways to send him donations.

PayPal works fine but there's a fee for using it.
Some dislike its services for a number of reasons.

So here's a different suggestion.

@Patrick
Why not set up bank account specifically for donations.
Every bank account has a unique IBAN number as well as Swift number.

This way anyone with a banking account can send you the donation without using PayPal or other services.

Might be something for consideration at least :-)
This has got to be the best solution surely - why have we not already thought of this before?!

You quoted the exact same sentence I did but completely ignored my point.

Actually, this one is Pat's. Don't know about his involvement with the previously mentioned webshop.

I doubt that control over the web site will be delegated this time.
I've setup and ran Owncloud, Resourcespace and Drupal on Slackware but I'm not much of a site designer. I was just thinking we have a pretty decent sized community so there should be someone who could maintain the site to Pat's liking to give him more time.

There are sites like gofundme and also kickstarter. Sure kickstarter is usually for new product but Pat could setup a certain price for Slackware 15 and let people fund it, then repeat for each version.

Not a designer, but I recently setup a site using bootstrap on front end and bash + csv on the other. Not recommending that here (there's obviously some mysql db or something), but adding some Slackware feel to a local bootstrap would be very easy.
