I dont get why PayPal is evil? Nor what it would have to do with the Second Amendment? I guess it's only US Americans who hate the companies based in their own country? Better not tell Trump then.
I'm sure it is because of this policy that they have in regards to transactions involving firearms, firearm parts or ammunition:
I do think as well that this is a point in favor of PayPal then. PayPal operates world wide and should not discriminate based on the country you live in.
So, firearms for no one.
I hate PayPal the company with the heat of a white hot poker, cancelled it long ago. Maybe because I still live in the Bay Area, for fifty-nine years. It is now a sewer hole made by BigTech rentiers and their lobbyists. Peter Thiel can bite me.
I don't have an amazon a**whole foods account either. I have a credit union, and a paper check. If Pat is too lazy to walk to his bank once a month or whatever, that's too bad for me. I'll spend the money somewhere else. After reading all the comments in this thread I don't care so much anymore.
Good luck Pat, have fun.
You might find the G.O.M. (Grumpy Old Man) Linux distribution more to your liking...

I lived in the Bay Area for only five years, but made a lot of friends among families who were natives to the area, so I can certainly understand those residents who don't have warm fuzzies for the the tech industry. It's caused the rents and real estate prices to be the highest in the world (along with the cost of everything else) and greatly increased the density of the self-absorbed jerk population (although the majority of the people I knew in tech were nice folks, I also ran across a few examples of the opposite).
I'm trying to clean up years of neglecting everything other than Slackware here. I've had a lot of mail pour in that I haven't ACKed yet (much of it important). My wife and daughter got their eyeglass prescriptions yesterday which was long overdue (and they say thanks!).
But I'm not too lazy to walk a couple of blocks to PO BOX 172, Sebeka, MN 56477 either. That's my usual mailing address, as we don't have street delivery here in this town. It's also been publicly listed in the whois information for the slackware.com domain for many years.

How would you feel like if no one could send Pat a donation because he wasn't on the approved list of software providers? We are actually very close to a world like this where payment processors can discriminate on people for propaganda. If Visa can facilitate in ammunition sales world-wide, so can paypal.
I think you are misunderstanding guzzi, based on your first response, particularly the California part. I'd wish you'd leave escalating a misunderstanding and simply address that there is no alternative to paypal currently available and you don't know if that will change, but appreciate the support. The reason being is the your response such as this one is promoting people now saying that are anti-american policy, and turning me off on you again. Don't be divisive like paypal is being divisive. Just try to help us help Pat.
Note I have no concern about paypal myself, but have never used it either, and would have appreciated a constructive answer coming from the core team, since I don't want to sign up for something I don't really need.
Right, so let's not turn this thread into political BS, would you? This thread is about supporting Pat and his family, not about "facilitating in ammunition sales world-wide", as you say, which I'm glad PayPal doesn't.

Just to add to this paypal has done such many times before, personally I know many stories of such cases over the years I have used paypal, but looking on a search engine shows that the internet is full of such complaints.
Since a few people have asked why the PayPal hate ...
For most users, there's never a problem.
For those who do ever run into a problem ... PayPal has developed a reputation for dragging feet. They've had numerous high-profile incidents where accounts were frozen or threatened with seizure for reasons that either were never made clear or looked really bad to the general public. There have been class action lawsuits about PayPal freezing accounts and holding funds in excess of six months. More info at Wikipedia, if you really care to dig in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal#Criticism
Again, I stress that most users never have a problem, and also note this is probably not the venue for an extended discussion on those issues.
I came to Slackware at around 2006... don't remember exactly.
But from 2004 to 2009 I took evening classes, and to add to this I took additional classes from 2009 to 2011 to make a step forward in my personal development to get the master in IT stuff. In comparison to full time studying, this took 5 years with additional 1,5 years to spend tuesdays evenings, thursdays evenings, and saturdays whole day, and during this time I also worked full time. My topic for 2nd thesis (first one can be neglected) was a reliable and secure server intended for small business with homepage (httpd) and mailserver (sorry, but I took in postfix). I was able to patch the kernel with the grsec patchset (at this time freely available) and set up a very great RBAC policy. It gave me a lot of knowledge. I was able to just remove the original package out of slackware and replace it with own compiled packages with whatnot options for security as canary bit, NX and stuff I don't even remember all of them.
What other distribution was able to leave me that freedom to pick something out and change it, without repackaging unneeded stuff and put it back into the whole Distro, than Slackware? I was not very keen to learn .deb and the whole redhat packaging stuff...
Then, on the very day, I had the "luck" to be the first one presenting my work at 8am. 30 minutes to explain everything... I knew I already have lost some credits since I did not (and it was not asked at all) come in with a suit, I weared suit trousers, suit jacket, but the serious T-Shirt from Slackware.com instead of a shirt and a tie. But my adviser already told me before I came in the arena I've already lost some points with that. It was hot as hell then in the arena so I removed my jacket. Slackware Linux.. when you get serious... was to see...
After my expert told me to never have seen such a great documented work, my adviser said some two or three sentences where I probably gave him a too banal answer.. I was done.
I got 5.7 for my work, while 6 is the best mark. I know where the minus came from, it had nothing to do with technical things... But after that I got a raise in my company.
What I want to say:
I owe you a lot of this, Pat. Thank you very much for having created a distribution which stays as clean as possible. Where we can exchange a little piece of puzzle (like Postfix for email) and that easily without the hassle one goes trough with a distro which needs exactly the whatever piece of fingerprint through an official repository.
We can change everything what we don't like, and if we like it, we leave it as it is.
And I want to order more shirts and stuff, so please don't give up the merchandise.
As soon as you have a different method than paypal, I will transfer a significant (I think about a 4 digits thing) contribution to you. And I will do that yearly.
Distribution: Slack64-current, Slack64-14.1, Slack-13.37, RISC OS

Personally I would never use PayPal after they unlawfully stole money from my account! I'd like to support Pat but I think Patreon or similar is a far less contentious way, with many knowing how badly PayPal operate.
I still think the best solution for Slackware is crowdfunding for each release. Ideas for perks include:

Which you are now instead again promoting the use of payment processor that is ostracizing a group of people. He was asking for an alternative, and is getting a "I'm glad it's that way," as a response, which is insulting to many people here. I don't know his story, why it is his tick that he had to mention that. Maybe what is starting him down this path is he uses a online ammo dealer that had paypal, and suddenly found out that he couldn't use paypal anymore. After all, we are talking about something that is legal where he is, so the action does not make sense that it could happen. I don't use paypal, but if a neighbor told me they had it happen, I would then avoid paypal.
A number of years ago, a friend of mine asked me to swing by an ammo shop. I can't remember ever having do that before or knew where it was. If I take your style of advice, I'd be dumping him on the road before I'd ever set foot there. That wouldn't make many friends in the US if that is your attitude. I knew exactly what he was doing and it is legal, and no reason to make a statement like you are now doing.
This is why I mentioned that you could be on the receiving end at any time, if we allow what should be neutral facilities to suddenly become speech and action hyper-partisans, as it could become with operating system software. This type of attitude can quickly divide us up.
