I ask all my clients to support the Slackware project by buying the official media and book from the Slackware store; I was under the impression the profits would be going to Patrick and the project. I'm very disturbed to read what has happened, especially as a client recently spent $70. I may ask them to return the items if the package is not opened. I think Patrick would do well to run his own store rather than involving anyone else. He puts in so much effort which many appreciate it is only right he is rewarded, especially right before a new release.

--- Edit:
As another idea: Why not do some crowdfunding for the 15.0 release? If one of the perks was a golden DVD signed by Pat then I'd definitely fund for one of those!

Not yet. He is still trying to figure out what to do from here. The only thing he has is his https://paypal.me/volkerdi address for now (you can find his post providing that link somewhere in this thread that I am too lazy to link to). Some of us are hoping that merchandise will still be available, but it's possible that Pat will want to get out of the merch game after dealing with this.

Sent a token of appreciation your way, Pat!

I hope you get a recurring-payment solution setup. It is easier to give a little often than to give a lot only once.

I hate PayPal the company with the heat of a white hot poker, cancelled it long ago. Maybe because I still live in the Bay Area, for fifty-nine years. It is now a sewer hole made by BigTech rentiers and their lobbyists. Peter Thiel can bite me.

I don't have an amazon a**whole foods account either. I have a credit union, and a paper check. If Pat is too lazy to walk to his bank once a month or whatever, that's too bad for me. I'll spend the money somewhere else. After reading all the comments in this thread I don't care so much anymore.

Good luck Pat, have fun.

I don't think there's anyone in this thread who likes PayPal. I for one certainly made an exception.

Some things are worth making exceptions over .

I dont get why PayPal is evil? Nor what it would have to do with the Second Amendment? I guess it's only US Americans who hate the companies based in their own country? Better not tell Trump then.

Thanks for your support!
Patrick, thank you for all of your hard and splendid work and dedication to Slackware, always seeking excellence. I thank you ones again from the bottom of my heart for all the work you and the rest of core team are doing with the project.
A small contribution from Spain too. No problems with PayPal, it is an emergency.

That's not the point at the moment.

Pat will foot a solution in his own time, in the meantime, PayPal can be used for emergency.

After reading some of the latest posts, it might be worth to point out again that Pat shared his personal PayPal link as requested by the community, and as an emergency solution while considering better ones for long-term funding (Patreon, Liberapay, and probably others). Therefore, PayPal detractors, please be patient and consider it for what it was intended to be: Pat's family needs support now. All the rest is secondary, in my opinion.

Indeed, just to expand on this point, I also emailed Patrick asking for a Paypal link. So it was in the interests of a temporary solution to sort something out fast.

Hey folks, my first order of business here needs to be a huge thank you to
everyone who has donated at https://paypal.me/volkerdi to help keep this
project going. As most of you are already aware by now, the financal situation
here at Slackware HQ has not been great for many years, including not getting
any pay for the last two years and forcing me (and my family) to live very
frugally while I continued to work on the project hoping I'd figure out a way
to actually monitize it by the time that Slackware 15.0 is ready for release.
I'm not trying to cast any blame regarding the situation. Really, I can only
blame myself for not trying to build my own ship years ago when things began
to not really work out. I'm still looking into sustainable funding options
such as Patreon or Liberapay (or perhaps both), and I'm open to other ideas.
I'm no longer in immediate danger of going broke, and I'm no longer
entertaining the notion of joining my friends at the local potato chip factory
in order to pay my bills. My family is grateful and humbled by the support
we've received. Hope we'll be able to keep this project going for a long time.
Also, I realize that the website lacks updates and needs attention and I will
need to find some time to devote to that. I've never been much of a website
designer, and the slackware.com site is basically left over from work done by
former Walnut Creek / BSDi employees. I've never seen able to make much sense
of the SQL backend. The interface to edit and post articles is clunky (and
I'm not sure the PHP for that even works any more). When I've posted articles
in recent years, I've done so by editing the main page already processed from
PHP into HTML, which is pretty darn messy as I'm sure you can imagine. I tend
to prioritize the distribution itself over other demands on my time - that's
clearly a lot to do with how things ended up the way they did.
So, I guess that's the report for now. Lots more work to do and not enough
time to do it in... that part I don't see changing moving forward.
Thanks very much again. I'll do my best to keep you all posted.
- Pat
Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

I'm a rarity, I guess. I've never had any issues with PayPal or any reason to bitch about them.

I don't understand the anti-paypal sentiments either. I like paypal; it's a safe, secure way to donate to my favourite distro. I sent Pat $75.00 US last week.
