can you please confirm that xfce4.18 works ok in current

I have a issue with xfce4 in current.
when i try to shutdown , reboot , logout system freeze and there is nothing you can do.
this happen not only if i try from menu to reboot etc but from cl also
Code:
poweroff,reboot,shuthdow -h now
system freeze blackscreen is there for ever.
Also no mater if i use runlevel 3 or 4, with both same problem

Plz if you have the xfce 4.18 installed to your Slackware current confirm that you dont have this issue
then maybe its something in my system or hardware problem.

Yes. Here it has frozen once and rebooted itself once, both while running -current.
No problems when running kde, which is unfortunate as I much prefer Xfce over, ugh, kde5.

I haven't noticed any problems, but I always exit X, then shutdown, if I'm shutting down. (Most times I just log out on console overnight.)

I've been running current for about a week on the Thinkpad T510. Updates as of Fri Dec 23 20:27:02 UTC 2022. No issues power off, logout, reboot etc from Xfce 4.18 menu. Seems fine but I haven't stressed it out as of yet.

If OP is also having trouble from CLI, I would not necessarily suspect the DE. What does CTRL-ALT-DEL do (should bring up log out menu)? Does X terminate on CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE?

I find that often when I click log out my session will not do so, but it doesn't freeze; I can still move the mouse around, and Ctrl+Alt+F6'ing to a terminal to run telinit 3 then telinit 4 works.

However, shutdown and restart appear to work perfectly in my experience, and I very rarely use log out over them, so I only discovered this today.

thank you all,
I will try to explain better the problem, which probably is "my problem"...

When i realize the problem with xfce I thought that the reason was some conflict with my Gnome installation. Maybe polkit or something else...
In an not clear Slackware-current system you cant be sure what is the reason of the problem. I tried several things with no luck.
First I crate a new user to see if new user have the same problem and it was positive, also root had the same problem.
After that I remove Gnome from my system I reinstalled xfce no luck again. I reinstalled Slackware no luck again.
Then I decide to be sure 100% so I made it the windows way. Because the reason I m running current is exactly this, to found bugs if exist and report. Its the only help i can do...
I formated disk and made o clear new installation of current. (26/12/2022.iso) downloaded from alien bob server.
The problem was there again. And to make it clear, nothing working No cltr+alt+back, no ctrl+f1,f2 etc The only way to kill it is power button after few seconds...

So, on that fresh installation I commanded

Code:
$ xfdesktop -Q && xfdesktop -e

I think thats its ok but i m not expert...

then I had an idea!
I commanded

I commanded kill -9 2193 and after that, I can reboot, shutdown, logout etc from cl or from menu with out any problem!!!!
I tried it several times and always had success!

Now,
I think is not xfce problem or current, I think its bios problem or kernel problem.
I tried the current kernel and 6.1.1 but no luck.

The major problem is that although there is an update for my hp bios, to update bios the only way is from windows. I kept windows 11 installation on a small part of disk only for that reason, BUT they close windows and i cant boot...and i dont remember the Hotmail account i created the first day I bought laptop because I never boot again to windows. I found a way to boot to windows shell and then I mounted a usb with the update bios.exe of HP but i cant install it because it says that update.exe is only for win 10 an not for win 11 crazy things...

ps I want to special thank @reddog83 for his help

edit: I forgot to mention that I rebuilded package xfce4-panel-4.18 with and older version of wrapper inside. And then I upgradpkg --reinstall but still the problem was there...

OK i marked as solved, i will explain...

From the first day that problem appears I report to guys whose building Gnome on Slackware.
@jloc0 said he believe that is Nvidia problem...
So today he build a package for me and ask me to install it and then to install nvidia proprietary drivers.
I did it and the problem solved!!! I can now reboot and etc with out any hacks for wrapper.
My laptop is optimus technology and i have the intel card as main card and nvidia for "special" graphics.
Since I dont play games I never used nvidia although nouveau was running...
I mark as solved now the thread because for sure its not slackware or xfce problem... its nvidia problem and my problem who bought 2000$ laptop with nvidia gpu and through my money... If nvidia dont like Linux why me to like nvidia? But cpu was my first choice and laptops cpu its really fast...

thank you all, and special @jloc0 and @reddog for their time...

It's ok to like Nvidia, it's just not the easiest thing to deal with on Linux 90% of the time, and especially hard when working remotely to try and help. In the end, I'm glad we helped you find the answers you were looking for and got it running correctly. Good job! YOU did this!

Seems to be okay here on log-out and shut down. I just switched over today to XFCE 4.18 from plasma so I haven't used it for too long.
