Can't make USB Intellimouse explorer work

I have an Intellimouse explorer and can't make it work under X, the cursor appears on the screen but I can't move it

I am using Slack 9.0, XFree86 4.3.0 and the kernel version is 2.4.20

hardware:
Epox - EP-8RDA+
XP1600+
512MB RAM
Radeon 8500

If you could post the settings for your mouse that appear in your
/etc/X11/XF86Config file you will likely get an answer that that will get you on track. You may want to check this link for some info.
