MS Wireless USB intellimouse Explorer

I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and I just cannot get this mouse to work. I have searched through these boards and have applied several changes to my XF86Config-4 file and added modules to /etc/modules... all to no avail.

The mouse works fine during setup. Why after it askes me which mouse I have does it stop working?

are u accepting the one detected during installation or you select another entry?

It is identified as a generic three button USB mouse. I changed it to a USB intillimouse. I'm sure it would work if I reinstalled and left it how mandrake detected it... But I would like to be able to edit the XF86Config-4 file myself.... I can't be reinstalling Linux everytime I use a new piece of hardware.
