Question Updating the bios firmware and driver on Red hat linux server (release 5.6)

Hi every one.

I am new in the linux enviroment and I have never worked with dos or anything.

I have been given a task to update a machine which is running Red hat linux server (release 5.6).It has an emulex -lpe 1150 hab card.I am requierd to upddate the bios firmware to version 2.12a8 and the driver to 8.2.0.106.1p...

I have downloaded the drivers and firmware and I will be using a memory stick during the upgrade.

May anyone supply me with the procedure on how should I go about doing it.

Your'll assistance will be really appriciated.

Regards

Sounds like you probably just got an .rpm package to update your Emulex HBA card. Is that correct?

If so you should be able to simply run the rpm -Uvh command on that .rpm to upgrade the current one. But before you start typing away give us some info on the file type you have received and whether or not this is your actual BIOS. Don't get confused between the two, you have individual drivers loaded into the kernel/OS to support HBA cards and other devices and you have your BIOS firmware which is the basic OS that resides on the hardware CMOS chip. This is used for the basic functionality of detecting hardware, POSTing, and handing off the system to the OS once it detects it.
