I'm trying to install SimplyMEPIS 3.3.1 on a Compaq Proliant 2500 server, but after (usually) about 45 minutes of installing, it just stops, and I have no idea why. Also, I'm not sure whether I should be using 2.6, 2.4, or Safe 2.4.
Can someone help me?

If you saved the .iso to a windows machine, there are programs that will check the md5sum for you. I don't think burner software like Nero does. You can also order CD's from several places for cheap. I like Linuxcd.org, but there are plenty around.
Okay, thanks.
The output is the same as the .md5sum file where I downloaded it from.
Do you think there's something wrong with how I downloaded/burned the file, and I should just order a CD, or there's something wrong with the machine I'm installing it on or the way I'm installing it?

If it boots, then you burned it o.k.
Where does it die ???. On initial boot it will spew messages, then switch to the GUI login screen.
Normally you login to the GUI then hit the "Install me" icon.
Presumably you get this far. What are the last messages before it dies ???.
Processor: 200MHz Intel Pentium Pro
RAM: 512MB
Hard Drive: 10.5GB
I got to the GUI screen, where it asks me what kind of install I want to do (2.6, 2.4, Safe 2.4). And then after it starts installing, it dies in a different place every time. It is (seemingly) completely random. And it doesn't output any error messages before dying.
What I was afraid of - you are talking about something different to the rest of us.
That initial (blue) screen is asking what you'd like booted - it's not an "install" screen.
The disk is a LiveCD - it runs entirely from the CD, and doesn't install (or update the hard disk in any way) until you tell it to.
Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight "2.4" and hit <ENTER>, and see if you get any further - if that fails, do likewise to use the "safe" option.
Let us know how you get on.
Distribution: ArchLinux (Can use any distro though)

you dont seem to have enough processing power for MEPIS, your not going to have much luck with that. try a lighter distro, say for example Damn Small Linux
