Problems with e2fsprogs library - Mandrake 10.1 Community

Hello

A few days ago I updated my Mandrake 10.1 Community installation from the stock 2.6.8.11 kernel to kernel 2.6.11.6. Everything seems to have worked well EXCEPT that somewhere along the line, my e2fsprogs got updated from 1.35 to 1.36, while the e2fsprogs-lib remained at the 1.35 version. I got e2fsprog-libs-1.36 from sourceforge.net in a tar.gz format, but was unable to compile it because of some compiler errors. Now what I could do is update any of the draketools within which these programs are hidden, but I don't know which ones to update. In the mean time, I cannot use e2fsck which is a real drag.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'm having a problem finding the e2fsprogs-lib RPM but I think you may need to install this one instead: libext2fs2-1.36-3mdk

Have you setup your URPMI sources correctly? If so, try installing that package using the command
Code:
urpmi libext2fs2

Hello Craigstar

Thanks for your response. I tried that but I got the message "Everything is already installed". Hmmn, somehow my e2fsprogs seem to me pointing to the wrong library?

Thanks anyway, and If i come up with any solutions in the mean time, I'll let you know.

Well, I don't actually have the same problem, I was just researching your problem when I couldn't find the library.

if you can, load up the package remove program (either from the Mandrake Control Centre or the KMenu) and check which version of e2fsprogs and libext2fs2 you have installed.

I suspect that your urmpi sources are not fully upto date, or you do not have enough of them and the newer libext2fs2 is not included in the current list of available RPM's for you to install.

Also, as a tip, if you get problems with missing libraries or files I wouldn't install from source unless you absolutely know what your doing. More often than not, enough there are RPM's you can install from urpmi sources that will solve your problem.
