problems after installing libreiserfs and e2fsprogs

my intent was to install the gui for parted. it wasnt configuring correctly so i thought the system wasnt meeting the req's, as mentioned at the parted site, to install libreiserfs and e2fsprogs. The gui didnt configure correctly after installing these either, though.
Now, when I boot linux (Fedora Core 3), it errors after

Checking root filesystem
fsck.ext3: filesystem has unsupported feature(s) (/)
e2fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck!

and then drops me to shell. I installed the latest version of e2fsprogs, whish is supposed have e2fsck. What should I do?

Krzysztof

Thanks to anyone who helps out.
