I installed Mdk 9.1 and everything works fine, then I made almost all updates, next time I boot neither Mandrake Control Center nor File Manager - Super User Mode works. When I sellect one of then it ask for root password and after some time it disapear. No error message is given. I can't launch MCC from a Konsole, only if I do Ctrl+Alt+Fn I can.
When I launch the Mandrake Control Center the top command shows a high CPU load.
Thanks quatsch!
I can't launch mcc from the konsole, it doesn't work, only when I open a terminal (by Ctrl+Alt+Fn) I can launch mcc.
For all:
I'm planning to learn a bit about Linux. I think it's a great opportunity to do that, but I need to know where is the problem, could be in any config file?

I did the following updates:
- Kdebase
- XFree86
- gdm
and both Mandrake Control Center and File Manager - Super User Mode works again. I can't understand. Could someone explain to me what happened?
In time: there is some files called core.xxxx in my /root/ directory. What is these files?
The core files are a dump of a program which crashed. You should be able to find out which program created them by typing "file core*". If your not interested in some serious debugging and the program which created is working after the updates which you carried out then just delete them.
