I'm not sure what you mean. You got that error message because there is a hard limit on the number of times you can use the "Helpful" system in any given day.

You made it clear that you will not consider to place it at the old Thanks button place, would you consider placing it on the same line (on the left?) as the "Did you find this post helpful? Yes | No" line? This would keep topics/functionality together.

As I mentioned, it's possible we'll alter the UI at some point in the future, after all functionality is sorted out and any potential bugs are fixed.

Jeremy, Anishakaul's post was in response to my previous post, where I mentioned seeing "You may not vote on any more threads today" for the first time, today.

Admitedly I've been seeking out posts to mark as helpful in order to test the new system and understand better how it works, so this is the first time I've ever seen that notice before. However, I wasn't aware of a daily cap, and was taken off-gaurd when I woke up and received that notice after marking only a single post as helpful.

Does the "Helpful" system cap reset after midnight, or 24 hours after it's last use? Searching around hasn't really brought out more information on this topic.

However, searching the FAQ itself for "helpful" returns the "How do I "thank" someone?" section (which should probably be removed now).

The limit is "per 24 hours". I've updated the FAQ and removed the entry pertaining to the Thanks system.

Sigh.
It still strikes me as fundamentally unfair that those who gave so much assistance over so many months and years - and who were heartily and genuinely thanked for it by their recipients - have now effectively lost their hard-won accreditation and have to start from scratch again. :/

On the other hand I think the specific add-reps showing in the user cp is an infinite improvement. Very nice feature.

So now, are the members expected to BOOKMARK all the posts they found helpful, to mark them helpful after 24 hours ? Isn't there some other way out ?

I have to admit that I wondered about this myself. Everybody starts within the 1 block range. Might have been better to make the spread a bit wider, say from 1 to 3 (4?) dots to start with. It does seem unfair for those that have been active for a long time helping others.

Simply because I have had answers in the past that were helpful but not technically helpful. There were only helpful because it helped me understand that I needed to be better and more precise at explaining my issues. It helped understand that I needed to do my homework first before bugging other people. It helped me understand that by doing first my research and asked the questions only when I was really stuck I respected senior members that would take the time to answer me.
Showing to others that I have done all I could, is a mark of respect to senior members...I call this help as well. I am not sure with the new system, this type of help would be rewarded...

Agree 100%.
I've opted out, because I don't want to give people the impression that I know more than I actually do. First impressions count, and if I give answers that conflict with those given by someone with more experience and knowledge, but a lower reputation score, who is the questioner going to believe?

This situation is where the "Reputation points per post on the post itself" will help !

If some more knowledgeable member sees your partially incorrect answer, he will/should down vote your post and then that post of yours will have "-10" written on it.

Thus it will be very easy for the OP to figure out who is correct IMO !

Yes, but like I said, first impressions count with a lot of people. They see, for instance, brianL with 58 and some veteran Slacker with around 40, and jump to the wrong conclusions.
